From its inception as a modest agricultural colony settled by retired Roman soldiers in 59 BC at the behest of Julius Caesar, Florence developed into a city recognized as “the Athens of the Middle Ages, ” “the heart of the Renaissance, ” and the birthplace of artistic, architectural, scientific, and literary milestones that changed the world forever.

This two-hour tour is an introduction to the most iconic sites of Florence’s historic center. It’s recommended as an overview of this UNESCO World Heritage Site city or to prepare you for deeper exploration on your own.

The itinerary order will depend on our starting point, but will include external visits of the following sites:

The tour includes the visit to The Leonardo da Vinci’s museum. Interactive, with more than 40 machines, this museum is an immersive Da Vinci Experience.

During his life, Leonardo wrote and drew thousands of pages of scientific manuscripts. Every piece is a reconstructed invention Leonardo da Vinci described in his works, built to scale following his plans. The majority of them are hands-on, so you can better understand his machines and mechanisms.

An educational, fun, engaging, and memorable experience about Leonardo da Vinci’s life, codexes, inventions and anatomical studies. You will also learn about his famous paintings by looking at their back-lit reproductions displayed at the museum, The Last Supper, the Mona Lisa, the Annunciation. . .

Florence and the Uffizi Gallery – Half Day Private Tour

Let’s discover the highlights of Florence starting with a pleasant walk ( about 1 hour ) from Piazza del Duomo, the religious centre of Florence where you will be enchanted by the beauty of the Giotto Bell-tower, the outstanding Cathedral with the Dome by Brunelleschi, the Baptistery.

Then we will continue our walk to the Republic Square, the New Market, Signoria Square with its Palazzo Vecchio , the Old Bridge facing the Arno River, and finally we will visit the Uffizi Gallery, the most important Museum of the Renaissance Capital, an unforgettable experience.

At the Uffizi you will admire a selection of masterpieces, absolutely not to be missed , realized by the Genius of : Giotto, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Leonardo da Vinci.

Murders, Rivalries and Conspiracies. Private Tour of Middle Ages Florence

 

The dark side of Florence revealed, before and during the Renaissance

 

No doubt, Florence is the city of beauty and the Renaissance but. . . there is something else to discover.
The bloody fights and rivalries between the richest Florentine families that allowed, among other things, the Medici family to gain and wield absolute power for more than three centuries.

Let’ s walk along the medieval streets of the city to learn the dirty tricks merchants used to expand their wealth. Let’s see how people were publicly punished as a warning against insolvency. Let’s look at the few remaining tower houses, built to prevent assaults during the night . . .

In a word, let’s discover the dark side of Florence!
